Since 1927, St. Aldwyn's School has taught children on the Ranchi plateau to read closely, argue fairly and finish what they begin. Pre-Primary to Class XII, ICSE and ISC, day and boarding.

About the school
Ninety-nine years on the same hillside.
St. Aldwyn's opened in 1927 with forty-two children and three teachers. The roll is larger now and the buildings have changed, but the working idea has not: a school small enough in feel that no child slips through, and serious enough in ambition that none coasts.

Five stages, one continuous education
Each stage has its own rhythm, but the handover between them is deliberate — teachers meet across sections every term so that no child starts a new year as a stranger.
Pre-Primary
A play-led beginning where children learn to listen, share and wonder aloud. Phonics, number sense and motor skills are woven through story, song and structured play.

- Montessori-informed activity corners refreshed every fortnight
- Daily outdoor time in a dedicated, fenced early-years garden
- No written homework — a weekly reading-aloud journal instead

“Parents ask me what makes a school good, and I have stopped answering with results. Results follow from something quieter: a child who is known, a teacher who has time, and a day with enough room in it for a book, a field and a friend.
We are unfashionably slow about some things. We still read aloud in the primary school. We still insist that every senior spends forty hours in service before the board year. And we still hold the view that a school's job is to hand society an adult it can trust — not merely a candidate it can rank.”
